There were sequins, lace and bright white all over. But my favorite trend for this year’s Emmy Awards was dark gowns in classic colors like navy blue and black. While I love colors, I felt this dark hue movement was a dramatic way to start the award season. Stunning silhouettes helped to make these subdued shades pop on the vibrant red carpet.
Basic black was worn by numerous celebs including Edie Falco, Eva Longoria, Heidi Klum, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Julie Bowen, Kelly Osbourne and Susan Sarandon. Tina Fey and fellow SNL beauty Kristen Wiig rocked black gowns with a unique splash of white.
Navy was the novelty color for the evening. Stars in navy included Connie Britton, Jane Krakowski, Jayma Mays, Lea Michele and Padma Lakshmi. This deep color looked beautiful on the brunettes, the blonds and beyond. January Jones followed also made blue new in a brighter shade and with an interesting, exciting and flattering cut and details. While she got some flack for this dress selection, I thought it was a risk worth taking.
My overall best dressed was by far Lea Michele. The dress, the jewelry, the hair and the makeup couldn’t have worked better together. The Glee star, who is a regular best dressed, wowed with this modern classic look.
Awards season is the most glamorous time of the year and if the Emmys are any indication of the award gowns to come, it’s sure to be a season to remember!
