For many of us, Carrie Bradshaw is the quintessential single girl who taught us about life, love and being fabulous. Throughout the Sex and the City series Carrie became more and more daring with her wardrobe and I think that is something we should all do as our style and ourselves evolve. Watching the series, I believed I was Charlotte’s style twin, but envied Carrie’s sometimes bizarre attire and daring details that made her style standout in the fashion capitol of the world. The effortless chicness created by her kitchy, out there pieces and fabulous sense for mixing and matching was adventurous enough for all of us. She did things no one else would like the famous tutu or the infamous engagement ring as a necklace. Even a fanny pack or thigh high argyle socks. The risks were endless and enduring.
Of course Carrie would not have been Carrie without the woman behind the character, Sarah Jessica Parker. Style is more than just the pieces you wear, but the attitude that you portray. SJP, as herself, is another one of my fashion icons because she is just as adventurous and fabulous as Carrie. It takes a real woman to create such a real character that all women can relate to in so many ways.
And, while SJP made Carrie the personality, who could forget the one who matched that personality with fashion. The woman behind the wardrobe, Patricia Field. Her knack for mixing pieces from then and now is truly a thing of beauty. She has a way of taking something so bold and making it ever so subtle to create an unforgettable ensemble.
So thank you Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker and Patricia Field for inspiring us all to take chances with our style and to be brave in all that we do.

East Coast Chic (ECC) began as a fashion blog in 2010. I created ECC because the diversity of style on the East Coast is inspirational and endless. ECC allows me to share my favorite fashion thoughts and spots from my headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as other trend setting states along the East Coast and beyond.
