Fall Fashion Week starts this week and it kicks off with the 2nd annual Fashion’s Night Out on Friday, September 10, 2010 presented by Vogue. Fashion’s Night Out is a worldwide party to celebrate fashion and where better to celebrate than in the fashion capitol New York City, which is where I’ll be! This is a quick and affordable trip for those in the DC metro area, so if you are free this weekend book your bus ticket (super cheap) and get on Priceline to snatch up a hotel deal! While planning my own trip I took the time to sort through all of the participating retailers and special events to find the stores I can afford with the best guests and activities. Here are just a couple of the favorites I’ve found so far:
Nine West (675 Fifth Avenue 53rd Street and Fifth Avenue NYC NY 10022)
Starting at 6pm this location will be rocking with live music by Joss Stone at the Lucky Magazine/Nine West co-sponsored party! Not only will soul sister Joss Stone be singing, but you will be able to shop her limited edition line for the store. Also, bring a gently used pair of shoes to donate to Souls4 Souls and receive a gift card (only first 99 to donate will receive gift card). See FNO’s Event Listings to find other participating Nine West locations.
American Apparel (429 Broadway New York NY 10013)
American Apparel has a funky feel to all the items that make it into their stores (like the bodysuits highlighted in past post), but this store is hosting a special Factory Sample Sale from 5-8pm for Fashion’s Night Out! There will be racks of products that never actually went into stores. This is your opportunity to find an already unique piece from this trendy store, but any piece will be even more one-of-a-kind because there are barely any of that item sold. From 6pm-midnight American Apparel will hold an open call for models to be photographed for the website and ads (wear a minimum of two American Apparel garments to participate), as well as live programming from Viva Radio DJs. See FNO’s Event Listings to find other participating American Apparel locations.
Payless ShoeSource (716 Lexington Avenue at 58th street New York NY 10022)
As I pointed out in a previous post (Designers Team with Discount Stores to Deliver Affordable Fashion), Payless is making a name for itself in the world of fashionable footwear with high-end guest designers like Christian Siriano, Lela Rose, Patricia Field and Isabel Toledo. These designers will actually be in the store from 8-10pm for shoppers and fans to meet! Following your photo op with the designers, be sure to check out the 2010 fall Designer Collections and don’t leave without your limited edition charity “cityscape graphic” tote created by Vogue for only $10 ($5 of each tote sold will go to the NYC AIDS Fund).
LOFT (All Manhattan Locations)
Between 6-10pm at any of the six Manhattan LOFT locations you will be able to step into the Style Studio and receive style tidbits from a renowned fashion stylist. Also, shop from the new fall magazine before the pieces are even in stores! Shoppers will be surrounded by treats and music all night long.
This is simply the beginning! Be sure to check out FNO’s website to see all events and participating retailers to plan your route through the fashionable streets of NYC!

East Coast Chic (ECC) began as a fashion blog in 2010. I created ECC because the diversity of style on the East Coast is inspirational and endless. ECC allows me to share my favorite fashion thoughts and spots from my headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as other trend setting states along the East Coast and beyond.
