Working out is keeps you healthy and makes you feel good about yourself. While it is important to get your heart rate up and burn calories a few days a week, you also need time off to recoup and rest. There are activities you can do on your days off that burn calories that don’t feel like an actual workout. My favorite non-workout workout is shopping!
I never thought of shopping as a workout until one episode of What Not to Wear. Stacy and Clinton were making over an Olympic swimmer and she took her workout watch shopping. Low and behold after a short two hours of shuffling through racks of clothing she had burned over 400 calories. If you enjoy shopping, this is the perfect excuse to do it more often! This does not mean you are spending more. Really, it is all about the hunt for me. I could spend hours in the stores and only spend $30. If you think about it, shopping involves walking, carrying around your purse and clothes and trying things on. You are constantly moving without even realizing it.
Shape Magazine online has a calorie burn tool that counts calories for an array of everyday activities based on how long you do the activity and your weight. Enter your time shopped and see what you’ve burned! I’m not saying this means you shouldn’t workout, but it is the perfect stay in shape activity for your days off. And you should be treating yourself every so often for all the hard work you put into your workouts the rest of the week!

East Coast Chic (ECC) began as a fashion blog in 2010. I created ECC because the diversity of style on the East Coast is inspirational and endless. ECC allows me to share my favorite fashion thoughts and spots from my headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as other trend setting states along the East Coast and beyond.
