When you think of a local shopping destination in the DC Metro Area, the last please you think of is Laurel, MD. While that is true when it comes to conventional retail shopping, it is top notch for finding unique items that can’t be found in any mall. Laurel has two of the largest thrift shops in the area filled with treasures that are fashionable and affordable.
Village Thrift Store (9644 Fort Meade Rd, Laurel, MD 20707) and Laurel Thrift Store Center (9880 Washington Blvd N, Laurel, MD 20723) both have a super selection of women’s clothing and shoes, along with accessories like handbags and jewelry. Go on specific days to get discounts on the already low prices. For example, Village Thrift has 50% off certain colored tags on Sundays only. I have found wrap dresses, vintage and designer tops, shoes both new and used, skirts for warm and winter weather and have never spent more than $10 on any item!
Thrifting allows you to find amazing articles whether accessories, clothing, jewelry or shoes that are gently used, vintage or even new with tags for so much less than you would spend at any vintage shop, consignment store or flea market. Yes, thrifting can be time consuming because you are searching through the good, the bad and the ugly to find the best, but the best is much less here than anywhere else!
How I see it is that vintage and fleas take time to sort through thrift shops just like these to find items they can sell at their own stores. They charge more because they have compiled a selection of only the best that creates a more convenient experience for you. This does not mean you should stop visiting these shops because they search the world for items, but it doesn’t mean you can’t do that same wherever you are.
Thrifting is a special shopping experience that may take some time, but will be well worth it when you find the perfect piece for pennies, whether from the past or present, to add to your closet.

East Coast Chic (ECC) began as a fashion blog in 2010. I created ECC because the diversity of style on the East Coast is inspirational and endless. ECC allows me to share my favorite fashion thoughts and spots from my headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as other trend setting states along the East Coast and beyond.
