We all know that purchasing a new pair of trending eye glasses costs a fortune and if you are like me, I prefer to have multiple pairs to mix things up (and because I misplace them constantly). But your vision benefit does not cover the bulk of the cost of one pair and usually won’t cover any of the cost for a second. So how do you find fashionable frames at a reasonable price? Easy – buy your next pair of frames online. I know it seems odd to look for glasses online because, of course, you want to try them on, so here is what you do.
First, you need a prescription of your optometrist. Then go to your optometrist’s showroom or any Hour Eyes, Pearl Vision, etc. and try on as many pairs as you want. Most people think the only option is to buy glasses from your physician, but from what I have seen those frames are usually marked up almost 100% in some cases! Let the sales associate or physician’s assistant know that you are simply looking for new frames, but will not be purchasing any at this time. This way everyone knows what to expect in the beginning. Take your time and try on a few different styles and colors. Once you’ve found the frames for you, ask the physician’s assistants or sales associate to write down the brand, style number and size that you will need. Then all you have to do is find the frames online and order! The same thing goes for contacts (which aren’t as much fun to look for, but ordering online will definitely save you money). You will need to submit a claim to your vision provider if your benefits cover a portion of the cost, but this will for sure cut your out of pocket costs in half, if not more!

East Coast Chic (ECC) began as a fashion blog in 2010. I created ECC because the diversity of style on the East Coast is inspirational and endless. ECC allows me to share my favorite fashion thoughts and spots from my headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as other trend setting states along the East Coast and beyond.
