This news may be a little old, but still worth mentioning and when talking vintage, the older the better. Michelle Obama is already a style icon after being in the public eye for a short period of time. She has made her mark on the world of fashion yet again by being the first First Lady to wear vintage frocks at a public appearance.
At the “Christmas in Washington” special aired on TNT in December, Michelle wore a thrift-store find from New York Vintage located in Chelsea. Michelle chose a flattering Norman Norell black lace couture design with a full skirt and high neckline.
Michelle is not the only star to shop this special shop. Major celebs like Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kim Cattrall and many others frequent the New York City boutique for red carpet couture.
On a side note, I have been to this shop and the pieces they sell are beautiful and truly the best quality. While out of my price range (way, way out of my price range), I spent a great deal of time simply admiring the style that lined the store from 60’s style shift dresses to art deco jewelry to evening gowns.
The First Lady is not afraid to go outside the box when it comes to her closet and us fashion fanatics appreciate the press and popularity that she brings to current and past trends. I hope to see Michelle in more fashion from the past in the near future.
For the full style story and to hear from the shop owners see the article in the New York Post.

East Coast Chic (ECC) began as a fashion blog in 2010. I created ECC because the diversity of style on the East Coast is inspirational and endless. ECC allows me to share my favorite fashion thoughts and spots from my headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as other trend setting states along the East Coast and beyond.
Wearing vintage is also green, of course! Cheers to Mrs. O!
