Mix Your Hot and Cold Weather Wardrobes for an Affordable Fall Look

This is the time of the year when we all pack up our summer wardrobe and pull the sweaters and outerwear from storage. But not so fast, because fall temperatures allow a small window to merge summer and winter wardrobes. This transitional season lets us mix these looks for at least a month or more. Here are a couple of ways you can combine the warm weather styles with the cozy pieces you can’t wait to wear again.

Shorts and sweaters – Pairing jean shorts with a loose fitting sweater is a comfy laid back look for the weekend. Make sure the sweater does not hide your shorts completely, but long enough to look relaxed. You can still wear sandals or a simple pair of flats to keep the outfit looking light and casual.

Summer dress and knee high boots – I love this look when I see it being sported in the summer as well, but my feet do not allow me to rock a pair of boots when it is 90 degrees, so fall is the perfect time for this look. The contrast between a light summer dress (think florals) and tough, rugged boots make for a fancier mix of warm and cool weather wear. This look could go from day to night and will keep your body temp comfortable for both. If the evenings do get to cool, you can add a jean jacket or a light faux leather jacket that matches the color and style of your boots.

Tights and any loose, long sleeve top – Tights are a current trend that any one can afford and changing the texture or color of tights can make them work for any occasion. Tights with flats and a long sweater are perfect for cools temps. Or try tights with a flowy summer top and a cute cardi. One of my favorite ways to wear tights is with an oversize sweatshirt. Let’s face it, no matter how fashionable we all love to be, some days we just don’t want to dress up. A pair of tights with an oversized sweatshirt make a current trend a bit more relaxed. I think this is much more stylish than sweat pants and a sweatshirt and I can’t wait until I can wear my navy tights with by old, broken-in GAP sweatshirt!

These are just a few ways to combine your summer styles with your winter wear. So unpack your sweaters and boots, but don’t put away your shorts and tanks just yet. Keep them easily accessible until the temps drop to the point of no return.
