Mix and Match your animal prints and polka dots, diagonal stripes and spring time florals, or any two prominent patterns to create a striking look that will draw attention from a distance. We tend to get in a wardrobe rut by wearing solids on solids, day after day, without even realizing that we have basically become…boring. This M&M trend is a fierce way to rework your wardrobe without even leaving the house.
You may not realize, but it is easier than you think to participate in a current trend with items you may already have. Step back and really examine the contents of your closet (this is one of my favorite things to do). Pick one item to start and see how many other pieces you can pair it with. Form at least three totally unique outfits with that one piece and be bold! Anything goes, at least for now, when you are getting ideas. Mix patterns, textures and different shapes to make old items look new.
When shopping, we tend to think “That skirt would go perfect with that top I have at home” and, guess what, that is usually the only top we wear with that skirt. I definitely get tunnel vision when it comes to combining what I already have and what I bring home, so I usually review my closet contents every couple months to make sure I am taking full advantage of any recent additions to my style vault. It is also a ball to simply admire your fantastic frocks now and again, so do it as often as you like! In fact, make a night out of it. Put in a movie, open a bottle of wine and relax as you shuffle through your timeless and trendy treasures.
You will be pleasantly surprised by how your wardrobe will suddenly expand by taking the time to think about the pieces you have and how they work together to create a wardrobe that you are proud to own and excited to show off.

East Coast Chic (ECC) began as a fashion blog in 2010. I created ECC because the diversity of style on the East Coast is inspirational and endless. ECC allows me to share my favorite fashion thoughts and spots from my headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as other trend setting states along the East Coast and beyond.
