New York Fashion Week seems so far in the past, but the looks we saw will move fashion forward in the already anticipated spring season. The shows continue to come via London, Milan and now Paris, but ECC wanted to recap some favorite trends from the runways that started it all this fall.
A welcome surprise collection came from an always solid style setter, Michael Kors. His earth tones to orange, tie-dye to animal print were still structured, but in a rough way. This was far from Kor’s Fall 2011 collection of neutrals and sparkles, but the cuts and silhouettes remain reminiscent. Two of the take away trends from Kor’s line are the tie-dye pants and belt bags! The casual tie-dye trousers look like they were made for Jennifer Aniston to wear on the weekend with sandals and white tank. ECC recently posted about bringing back the fanny pack. While the fanny pack is a funky way to wear your wallet around your waist, the belt bag keeps this trend totally classy.
Several designers kept it cute, yet sophisticated with floral prints in soft patterns and bold colors. Peter Som showed rose prints by mixing neons and sharing shades of blue in many pieces. The prints were paired with sweet silhouettes in solids, stripes and an adorable white+blue herringbone.
Tracy Reese’s collection was like a fancy and fashionable garden party. The floral trend was found throughout, but was not as obvious in black and white and often an abstract looking large prints and mosaic patterns. The otherwise pastel pallet was playful and pretty in all cuts.
The beginnings of Mimi Plange’s florals were dramatic with vibrant purples, greens and oranges on a bright blue backdrop. The collection wrapped up with more floral from head to toe with red roses even on the shoes!
These are not even a handful of the delightful designs we saw on the runways in NYC this fall for spring. The winter will be that difficult to endure knowing we have both the tough chic styles of Kor’s to the garden of gorgeous florals we have to look forward to wearing come spring.

East Coast Chic (ECC) began as a fashion blog in 2010. I created ECC because the diversity of style on the East Coast is inspirational and endless. ECC allows me to share my favorite fashion thoughts and spots from my headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as other trend setting states along the East Coast and beyond.
