The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala is the boldest red carpet of them all. This year the style stakes were high as the 2011 gala honored the late fashion phenom Alexander McQueen. McQueen’s designs were seen on numerous celebrities and socialites including Daphne Guinness, Gisele Bundchen, Salma Hayek and Sara Jessica Parker. McQueen’s Creative Director and prodigee, Sarah Burton, who just this past weekend dressed Princess Catherine for the royal wedding (not once, but twice) was worn by Naomi Campbell, as well as herself.
McQueen was not the only designer who was worn by many at the gala. There are too many to mention, but I do have my top two dresses of the evening. First, Freida Pinto in a Chanel Haute Couture gown that mixes both miss and men’s wear. The satin fabric in crisp white with stunning cap sleeves and a mermaid silhouette was made slightly strong with a black skinny tie was striking.
Also a fav is Ashley Olsen who shows her petite shape in a fitted black vintage Dior Couture gown, but she stays true to her eccentric style with over-the-top sleeves.
See all of the evenings top looks at People StyleWatch including other honorable mentions like Emma Stone in Lanvin, Diane Kruger in Jason Wu, Christina Hendricks in Carolina Herrera, Ginnifer Goodwin in Topshop and Christina Ricci in Zac Posen.
Also, see Daphne Guinness get dressed for the Met Gala in a Barney’s window. The fashion icon gracefully changed out of one ensemble and into another in front of a crowd on 61st and Madison Ave. This art installation, like the gala, was a tribute to designer McQueen as Guinness dressed for the red carpet in a feathery fashion by the designer.

East Coast Chic (ECC) began as a fashion blog in 2010. I created ECC because the diversity of style on the East Coast is inspirational and endless. ECC allows me to share my favorite fashion thoughts and spots from my headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as other trend setting states along the East Coast and beyond.
