With William and Kate’s wedding right around the corner, everyone is frantic to find out who the bride will be wearing. While I am also on the edge of my seat to see the soon to be Princess’ gown, I am also reflecting on the style scents of our past Princess Diana. I have always had a slight obsession with the Princess of Wales. I’m sure it had to do with her grace, poise, and ability to give, to love and to look good doing it all. While she may not have been with us as long as we all wish, in the time she was here she gave so much.
Whether casual or formal, Diana’s style was as ladylike as they come, but not so proper we could not enjoy her sensational silhouette. We see so many of our current trends in Diana’s past pieces like the military jackets, ruffled blouses, bright suits, broad shoulders, sheer LBDs, boyfriend blazers, over-sized sweaters, pinstripes, plaid and tweed (just to name a few) . She wore all of the classics that have stood the test of time, while adding her own sense of sass which is what really makes an icon.
Friend of designers and cover girl of major fashion mags such as Bazar, Vanity Fair and Vogue (on several occasions), Diana understood the importance of making a statement with not just what you do, but what you wear. Your style gets you noticed and being a presence is power.
Fashion is only one piece to the style puzzle however. While Diana kept her dusty blond hair short, it was consistently light and flowing. Always swooped aside effortlessly, her hair was made for a tiara, which we all wish we had (both perfect hair and a tiara).
I speak of Princess Diana’s style, but there is so much more to her than just that. As Kate joins the royal family we have already seen that she has a fashionable side and know she will be as wonderful a Princess as her past Mother-in-love. Best wishes to the happy couple!

East Coast Chic (ECC) began as a fashion blog in 2010. I created ECC because the diversity of style on the East Coast is inspirational and endless. ECC allows me to share my favorite fashion thoughts and spots from my headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as other trend setting states along the East Coast and beyond.
