The dress we’ve all been waiting to see has finally been revealed and what a treat! Kate Middleton chose Sarah Burton, Creative Director of the British fashion house of Alexander McQueen, to design her much anticipated gown. While we all hoped Kate would wear McQueen, the dress was better than expected!
Elegant lace covered Kate’s toned arms and sweetheart bodice with a slim v-neckline which gave the classy dress a modern feel. An at least six foot train with pleats donned by more lace followed Kate down the aisle at Westminster Abbey. Kate wore her hair half up with the embroidered silk tulle veil and a Cartier tiara borrowed by the Queen. The dress and veil were both handmade by the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace.
Princess Katherine was not the only one to watch at the ceremony. Pippa Middleton was also stunning in a simple cream dress by Sarah Burton that incorporated the same lace design as seen in Kate’s gown. The hats worn by other royal family and celebrity guests were the highlight of the day however. Princess Beatrice of York, Princess Eugenie of York, Princess Letizia of Asturias, Victoria Beckham, and royal cousin Zara Phillips had some of the top hats of the ceremony, many designed by Philip Treacy. I only wish we in the states wore elaborate hats like these for more occasions!
While we focus on fashion, ECC sends best wishes to the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their big day!
