Prada’s collection shown at 2011 Spring Fashion Week contained solid blacks, jungle prints and sporty stripes. The color block dress seen somewhere in the middle of the show has been spotted many times since the catwalk in the fall. The fun, form fitting frock combines neutrals like sharp black and subtle brown with bright magenta and tangerine stripes.
I’ve seen this look on three very different stars, but it suits each of them surprisingly appropriately. First star I saw sporting the spring stripes was Hailee Steinfeld on the red carpet of 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards in January. Nominated for Best Supporting Actress at only 14, she stayed young and cool a long version of the bold gown.
The dress also made it into two quality fashion magazines in April 2011. InStyle’s April cover girl, Tina Fey, adorned the adorable mermaid style dress inside the magazine. Tina showed some leg with the shorter, more sophisticated cut as seen on the runway. While the dress was young enough for Hailey, it still works for funny lady Fey. We’re used to seeing her as Liz Lemon on 30 Rock in the usual boyish plaid tops and blazers, so the not so serious pattern on the formal dress makes it more suitable for the actress/writer/wife/mom/everything and more.
The dress also made the cover of Elle in April on Amanda Seyfried. Amanda gave the more casual print dress bombshell status with her sultry stance and startling stare. Seyfried’s super sexy, but sweet look is so distinctive with her engaging eyes and perfectly pale skin. She is one of my top true beauties out there right now.
Keep Prada’s patterned piece in mind when searching for new summer attire. Color block clothing is in, sporty structured ensembles are in and formal fits with casual prints are always in.
