The Golden Globes are over and the Hollywood Foreign Press has spoken. Now it is time for the fashionistas to do the same. The dresses were full and long, strapless and sparkly, light and bright. There were, of course, our favorites and our not so favorites. ECC likes to stay positive so we are going to point out our best of the night and let the rest be.
For this time of year, I always enjoy the dark dresses like the ones worn by Eva Longoria and Jane Fonda. Slim silhouettes kept simple with a couple ornate details made these two of my top picks of the evening. Eva’s Zac Posen was stunning with cap-sleeves, which are unexpected and unforgettable on evening wear. Jane Fonda looks good for her age and looked really good in the black and metallic long-sleeve George Hobeika gown she wore.
In an ode to the upcoming Valentine’s holiday, pink was pretty impressive worn by Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf and Leah Michelle in Oscar de la Renta. These light dresses were accented with romantic details like flowers and ruffles that made them as memorable as the performances the actresses were nominated for.
Some other honorable mentions were those wearing beige and blush shades. Sandra Bullock in an off-the-should, one long-sleeved mauve Jenny Packham beauty and Leighton Meester in a neutral long-sleeved Burberry gown.
My best dressed of the evening was Anne Hathaway in Giorgio Armani Prive long-sleeved, backless scalloped dress covered in Swarovski crystals. Enough said! The dress was is as amazing as the actress herself.
The trend I loved and worn by a majority of major stars were sleeves. It is still winter and while it may not be below zero in Beverly Hills, sleeves were appropriate for this time of year. Sleeves also create a dramatic effect that you don’t often see on evening gowns today. So bravo to these actresses for going outside the box and staying warm while out there!
There were so many more amazing designer gowns on many more amazing women worth seeing. Visit InStyle for all of the evenings best (and worst) looks.
